On May 16, 1945, Mgr Joseph Charbonneau, Archbishop of Montreal, appointed the members of the Historical Commission, including Sr Maria Mondoux, rhsj, and Miss Marie-Claire Daveluy, for the research of the writings.
History of the cause
On February 5, 1946, by decision of the archbishops and bishops of Quebec, the name of Jeanne Mance was added to the list of the Founders of the Canadian Church.
In 1954, Mgr Giacinto Parisio was appointed Postulator of the Cause in Rome and Father Jean-Ivan d’Orsonnens, a Jesuit, vice-postulator in Canada.
After fourteen years of research, the Historical Commission submitted its report in 1959. The diocesan trial was open from 1959 to 1961 to question twelve witnesses on the reputation of holiness.
On May 23, 1961, all the documentation was sent to Rome.
A first “Positio” (summary biography of the virtues) was written, but was determined to be incomplete. The work of research and writing of a new “Positio” by Dom Guy-Marie Oury, OSB, monk of Solesmes, in 1995, was submitted for study by consultants, historians and theologians.
The case was unanimously accepted by historians in 1997. In 2013, theologians gave unanimous approval to the heroic virtues of Jeanne Mance.
Her Cause was heard by the Commission of Cardinals and, on November 7, 2014, Pope Francis recognized the heroic virtues of Jeanne Mance and declared her Venerable.
A miracle obtained through her intercession would hasten the beatification of Jeanne Mance.

Prayer to obtain favors through the intercession
of the Venerable Jeanne Mance
Good God, you inspired Jeanne Mance to leave France to come and bear witness to your tenderness and compassion on the Island of Montreal, in Canada.
She did so in such an admirable manner that she was recognized as the “soul” and “angel” of the colony founded in Ville-Marie.
Attentive to events, she made herself available to all. With all her heart, she cared for the sick, loving them as you yourself loved them. She was bold, courageous, and heroic.
Thanking you for what you have accomplished in her and through her, we pray that you grant us, through her intercession, the favor we ask of you, if such is your will.
Grant that the holiness of her life may be fully recognized within the Church.
Amen
With the permission of the Ordinary, January 25, 2015
